GRIEF AND LOSS - HOW TO MEND YOUR BROKEN HEART WITH SOUND HEALING PERTH.
Sorry Business
In Australian First Nation culture we call grief “Sorry Business”.
“Sorry Business”, is a period of mourning after someone’s death. During this period a number of cultural practices take place, including ceremonies and responsibilities in accordance with Traditional First Nation Lore and custom. There is no set time period for Sorry Business. It differs from mob to mob.
But no matter which mob, country or culture you come from, losing a loved one is a life altering and heartbreaking experience.
Dealing with Grief At Christmas
With the Christmas period fast approaching, this loss can often feel more acute as you try to navigate a significant celebration without your special someone.
As joyous as Christmas is, it comes with it’s own levels of stress:
Whose house is hosting Christmas lunch?
Are the families splitting their time across blended households? What’s the timetable for this?
Who wants what for Christmas?
How big a ham do we need?
Who’s picking up the prawns?
Is there a spare bottle of something in the fridge for those well wishers who drop round unannounced?
And that’s just scraping the surface.
For Perth families who are facing their first holiday season without a key member of their family or friendship group, there are even more stressors at play.
Do you want to bother with the ‘usual’, ‘traditional’ Christmas this year?
Should you just go away instead?
Do you set a place at the table for them or not?
How can you honour that person without bringing the festive vibe down?
It is a difficult time to get through and you’ll be forgiven for feeling the pressure of it all.
The Impacts of Grief on Your Health
But all that stress, worry and anxiety is not healthy. Floating through your life in aconstant state of numbness is not serving you. Holding on to that grief without working through it, is detrimental to your health and here’s why.
Stress and anxiety raise your cortisol levels. Cortisol is the primary stress hormone and plays a critical part in regulating a number of functions. Stress, worry and anxiety trigger the release of cortisol from your adrenal glands into the system, which you may know as the flight or fight response. This is great, if you are trying to fight off an attacker or running from a fire. It’ll save your life, and when the threat is gone, your cortisol levels reduce again.
However, consistently raised levels of cortisol caused by long term, chronic stress, anxiety or grief wears down your adrenal glands and causes hormonal imbalance, increased heart rate and interferes with your ability to sleep well.
Although everyone experiences and deals with their grief differently, there are some common experiences.
In my work with clients over the years, many have come with the intention to release the pain caused by their grief in our sessions.
These clients expressed trouble getting out of bed, not wanting to have a shower or get dressed to face the day. They struggled with brain fog, feeling angry, extreme fatigue and had no desire to socialise with friends, family or co-workers. Their world was smaller than it used to be and it was significantly impacting all areas of their life.
How Can Sound Healing Help with Grief?
Sound healing is non-verbal. It allows the sound frequencies to connect with the frequencies in your own body, relaxing you, healing you on a cellular level and uplifting your energy.
Whilst your body is in this relaxed state, the sound helps shift your brainwaves from the beta state (attentive and active thinking) into the alpha (restful and relaxed) and theta (meditative) states.
When you go through grief, you are worried, stressed and can’t sleep. Sound healing regulates the nervous system, so the body can repair itself and prevent disease from developing.
Through the Soulavita sound healing sessions you can process grief and the associated emotions so you can find the strength to function and participate in your life again, without forgetting that important person.
Eventually, you will be able to talk about your loved ones without crying and use their names without breaking down.
By utilising the power of a series of Soulavita sound healing sessions, you can gently mend the heart, so you are no longer stuck in that deep depression and overwhelming sadness that comes with the loss of a loved one.
This is how a series of Soulavita sound healing sessions helped Karen after losing her parents suddenly.
If you’re finding it hard coping with your grief, Soulavita’s sound healing sessions can help you just like it helped Suzi.
She was struggling to move forward after the death of a very close friend.
During our session together, she spoke of feeling numb and a sense of ‘unrealness’, knowing her friend had passed but not being able to accept it.
I created a heart centred sound healing meditation especially for Suzi.
Suzi relaxed on the sofa and I surrounded her with the Soulavita sound healing bowls. It was a gentle healing session, which enabled her to process her emotions without fear.
At the end of the session she got up and hugged me, sharing that she had just seen her friend in spirit, said a heartfelt goodbye and was able to process her feelings of grief and move forward with grace.
I hope by reading this, it provides you with some comfort at this difficult time and reassures you that you are not alone and I can help you.
